Mrs Chitterchatter was not in her elements off late. Her chirp was missing, so was the glow on her face. Though the life went on as usual, everyone in the household had taken a note of the change. Something was amiss.

Innocent Baby was first to break the ice. One day, she asked, “Are you upset with me mummy?”

“No, my dear”, she replied. The conversation ended before it could start.

“Just three words for an answer! Algorithm of ‘Google of our house’  has gone wrong. That’s grave”, informed Giant Little Kid to his father, citing the dialogue that he had heard between mother and daughter.

“I am aware. She is upset”, affirmed Mr Balanced who was reading the news paper.

“I hope you are not at the wrong end”, checked the boy.

The father and son saw eye to eye when it was the matter of fight between genders! The only time they bonded so strongly, you know!

“Ah, not me”, replied the man, brushing aside the allegations.

“Then who? Munchkin or me?”

“Neither”

“Care parting with wisdom behind this mystery?”, pleaded the boy.

Keeping the news paper aside, the man replied, “She is not able to cope up with the recent loss of her dear aunt”

“Oh. That’s beyond my limits”, contemplated the boy.

“Everyone’s limit, for that matter. She has to accept and go ahead with the flow of life”, he said getting up from the relaxing chair.

Moving towards the balcony, he reflected, ‘The garden is getting her vibes too’, noticing the weeds in some pots and some wilted bushes.

“Your babies are calling out to you”, he said aloud and then walked up to her. Mrs Chitterchatter was busy tidying up her cupboard. Holding her hand, he made her follow him to the balcony.

“Its been long, we did something together in the garden”

“Hmmm. I undertake that later”

“I am offering you a gardening date and you are rejecting it? Old man the lady is no more interested in you”, he appraised himself.

She looked at him with much gloom. Without paying attention to it, he fetched the gardening tools and handed her a pruning shear. He took a trowel and started taking off the weeds.

“Her Highness, please move your hands”, he prodded her.

She started cutting off the dried twigs mechanically. Suddenly she stopped. Her gaze was locked. Mr Balanced took notice of it. One pot had a small bush with almost no life. She pulled the pot towards her for a closer inspection.

With tears in her eyes, she started trimming the wilted part. The inner turmoil was being cleansed out by the tears. Her hands stopped again. Wiping the tears, she took a closer look. A faint smile appeared on her face. Mr Balanced checked once again. He could see a green shoot with tender leaves!

“Life goes on”, she murmured.

“That’s the law of nature. A true gardener cultivates resilience and reaps joys of life”, he appended, enveloping her in a warm embrace. ‘Getting closer to mother nature is always rewarding’, reflected Mr Balanced to self.

Needless to say, the chirp was back to normal  soon after!!! Gardening date opened the gates to life.

“Is this the house or a garage?”, asked Mrs Chitterchatter while tidying up the house in the evening. No one responded. As a routine,  it fell on three pairs of deaf ears.

Its business as usual; this time from gloom to bloom!

Mrs Chitterchatter reminds me of Mrs Funnybones. Your writing style is exactly as funny as Twinkle Khanna’s with similar tone and characters. Keep up the good work.

Life goes on indeed. Having said that, everyone needs time off to grieve and then eventually move on 🙂

Glad she was able to get out of grief earlier.

As they say a thing of beauty is joy forever. Glad Mrs. Chitterchatter found her “lost” joy back in the form of a beautiful green shoot.
