“Lets finish it off. He will be home soon”, instructed Mrs Chitterchatter to Giant Little Kid and the Innocent Baby.

She then peeped over Innocent Baby’s shoulders. She was giving the finishing touches to the greeting card.

“You need not add any more detailing to it”, suggested mother.

“Hmmmm”, came the reply from the lost land.

“Check this out Mom”, called the boy catching her attention to the laptop screen. He proudly showed the final picture of the tag that he had created using photoshop.

“Wow…that’s cool! It has everything that your father loves!”, she exclaimed. “Take a photo print out quickly and stick it to the gifts”

“Children, make sure that you keep it under wraps”, she forewarned the kids.

“Of course, Mom”, replied the boy.

“But we have already wrapped up the gifts. Why another wrapping Mom?”, checked Innocent Baby voicing her doubt.

“Bunny, we don’t have to re wrap the gifts. All you need to make sure is that your Daddy doesn’t get the whiff of it, till tomorrow. Aren’t we planning a surprise for his birthday?”, clarified Mrs Chitterchatter.

“Oh yes. We must not let him know”, agreed the girl with excitement.

By the time, they finished everything, the door bell rang. As was the norm, the little one answered the door. Giving a toothy grin, she hugged her father.

“Yeah… daddy! How was your day?”, she inquired.

“Good. How about you?”, he asked while removing his shoes.

“It was a busy day”, she responded.

“Lots of homework?”, he asked settling on the sofa.

“Not at all. We were busy wrapping and making…. Oops”, she replied biting her tongue.

“Wrapping and making what?”, he probed, growing inquisitive.

Mrs Chitterchatter had rushed to bedroom to hide the gifts and the greeting card. Giant Little Kid was busy tidying up the study table to make sure that no tell a tale signs were left behind.

“We have to keep it under wraps”, whispered Innocent Baby in her father’s ear.

“I will also keep it under wraps. You can share it with me”, assured he, in a low tone.

“Promise?”

“Cross my heart”

“We were wrapping the gifts and making greeting card”, she said letting the cat out of the bag.

“For?”, checked father with an inquest.

She hesitated for a moment.

“Don’t you trust Daddy?”

“Yes. But…”

“Gossip mongers, whats going on here?”, asked Mrs Chitterchatter with doubt. She had returned to the living room by then.

Checking the startled looks on the Innocent Baby’s face, she raised her eyebrows.

“Gossip and us? Naah! She was sharing her day’s experience”, answered Mr Balanced.

Did I inform you that Mr Balanced has a knack of presenting the facts in the gentlest way without hurting anyone and without telling lies? He is a master of that art!

“Oh really?”, asked Mrs Chitterchatter as she still had a doubt.

“It’s a deal between us to keep it under wraps”, expressed Mr Balanced.

Mrs Chitterchatter could read between the lines. She tried hard to give an unsparing look to the little one; but a bout of laughter escaped her lips and that ditched her plans.

Exploding into a hearty laugh and giving company to the Mrs Chitterchatter, Mr Balanced said, “I am not aware of any surprise for tomorrow!”

“Oh no…not again”, said the boy who by then had joined the family.

“Not me”, said the girl in the sheepish tone.

“Really?”, grumbled the boy.

The birthday was celebrated a day in advance in order to ring in peace! As a return gift Mr Balanced treated the family with a day long picnic on his birthday.

He had kept this surprise under wraps…

what a lovely surprise for everybody! This reminds me of the presents I had kept for my husband’s 60th Under wraps. I had collected around 60 little gifts over the year and wanted to present them to him on THE DAY. But I landed giving them to him much before simply because he said things like : Oh I’m going to get myself a BandhGala and I’d quickly give it to him myself before he ruined my surprise gift…. 🙁 But in a way it became a different game because I’d wonder what he’d come up with each day….
