“Oh God”, she muttered turning over in bed.

“Ketan… Wake up”, she whispered, scrabbling blanket to reach him. “Maaaammaaa…There’s someone under my bed”, she said with trepidation.

Nocturnal Treasure Hunt

Dark night was perfect background for ghostly thoughts. A casual glance at the window, through which escaped faint street light, sent chill down her spine as the dancing shadows of the bare tree outside, shaped the shifting spectral images.

“Shaila”, said a smothered voice.

She was about to faint when it fell on her ear.

“Rrrrram, rrraaaammmm…rrrrrr” she blabbered with her eyes closed. Her voice reached crescendo as she sensed fresh jerks.

Sudden frantic knock on door made her spirit jump out of her mouth and chanting deserted her. Laconism was punctuated by lack of movement under the bed as well as knocking.

Silence was short lived as a dreadful wail escaped her lips when she felt a hand on her leg, triggering frantic knocking on the door.

“Shaila, it’s me Ketan”

Shaila looked in disbelief as Ketan appeared from under. He turned the lights on and opened the door.

Rushing in little perplexed, Naveen, their son, stood next to Shaila who was sweating and fuming with anger.

“My bad. Was searching for wedding ring that had slipped my finger this afternoon. Didn’t wish to disturb everyone’s peace of mind by informing”, said Ketan ruefully sounding politically correct.

“What on Earth?”, expressed Shaila.

Naveen walked away, nodding in rejection.

Ketan slipped under blanket aborting nocturnal treasure hunt to avoid impending World War!

Ketan would be in trouble if found that he lost the ring. He might as well make an effort to locate. He is in trouble either way.

Ketan would be in trouble any which way – not a good night for him. First he lost the wedding ring and then scared his wife. Ooh la la!
