“Flappy return back. The clouds are crowding, wind is picking up speed. Thunderstorm is about to break”, shouted Elly, the seagull.

Flappy her teenage boy had hormones raging in his heart and wings. He always was up for a game. Working against the odds gave his audacious ego a fat boost.

The gusty winds and a hungry eagle circling above, waiting for an opportunity to grab its last meal of the day, was enough an invitation for Flappy. He always found it fascinating to entice Hawky, the mighty eagle and dodge him. Returning safe to habitat after the ‘game of death’ amidst a noisy squawking welcome by his friends elevated his status, “fearless Flappy” to a new high.

“Six minutes of fame should not cost him dearly”, said Elly aloud mirroring her motherly insecurities.

Old Charlie, observing the drama from another branch, had only this to say, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all”, as he lumbered, trying to balance himself with a lifeless wing and a broken claw.

You have such a unique perspective of looking at things. I hope Flappy learns that doe fame to sustain, there needs to be the right balance of adventure and precaution. I’m sure Elly is going to monitor that.Beautiful take on the prompt.

Shilpa Gupte · July 13, 2018 at 12:43 pm

This was superbly written, Anagha!! I simply loved it from the moment I began! I could so visualise the whole scene, and could very well see the smug look on Flappy ‘S face as he flew about, boldly, throwing caution to the winds. That’s how many of us live their lives, isn’t it? Caring a damn about the dangers that lurk behind dark corners. Their motto in life is, what’s life living with caution, when you can boldly take a few risks?
Well done!

    Anagha Yatin · July 13, 2018 at 1:28 pm

You got me perfectly right Shilpa. Thanks for visiting.

jaya1966 · July 13, 2018 at 2:52 pm

That is indeed a dangerous game to play and I can understand Elly’s anxiety. But then what is life without a little danger in it! Very imaginatively written.
