Nutty family believes in open door policy. Main door of their house is open all throughout the day. Guests are always welcome at their abode. However there turned out to be an exception. An unexpected guest at the most unexpected time of the day paid them a visit. Here it goes…

The boys of the house were watching a stale football match, as if it was live and they were the owners of the club! Mrs Chitterchatter had finished her chores in the kitchen and was in for calling it a day. Off she went to the bedroom.

“Ayioooooooo…….”, came the scream from the lady. She got repelled from the bedroom door as if electrocuted. She appeared shocked. So were the boys to hear that scream.

Her eyes were still fixated at the bedroom entrance with her hands on her ears and not willing to stop her scream when the boys joined her. Mr Balanced held her with both the hands.

“Calm down. Whats the matter?”

Her eyes were wide open as if having spotted a specter! The fear was written all across her face. The boy got into the action and handed mother a glass of water. Pulling a chair, Mr Balanced made her sit. Keeping the glass aside after taking a sip, she said, “It’s there. Right behind the door. I saw it just now”

“But who?”

“There’s a mouse in the bedroom”, replied she, looking at the boy and then turning to the man.

“Mouse in the house? Bedroom?”, checked Mr Balaned with much astonishment. “Or do you mean to say in the kitchen?”

“Master bedroom”, she said.

By this time, Giant little kid had ventured into the bedroom. Going around the bed, he checked every corner.

“Nothing inside. Except usual things lying here and there”, assured the boy.

“But before the dinner, the bedroom was neat and tidy”, doubted Mrs Chitterchatter, turning her head to Mr Balanced.

“I had pulled out few things from cupboard. But we aren’t discussing that right now, aren’t we?”, came the reply from the man.

“Ya that’s right. I saw little mouse in the bedroom. It crossed my path and now its hiding behind the door”

This time the man ventured into the bedroom. Closed the bedroom door behind him. He returned back with the same finding as that of the boy.

“May be its just an illusion. Forget it”, stated the man.

“I am not venturing alone in the bedroom. One of you must join me till I sleep. You can return to your game later”, demanded the lady.

The boy already had both his hands pointed to the man as he did not wish to miss on the turning point of the match, that he knew was to happen in a few minutes! The man had no option but to honour the request.

Settling into the comforts of the bed, Mrs Chitterchatter pulled the book that she was reading. Mr Balanced pulled his lap top and started checking mail.

Two minutes into the silence, she screamed again. “Oh…my…Goooooooooooooooood…..”, said she at the top of her voice, jumping to her feet and standing on the bed. Mr Balanced was startled for a moment. But then he also caught the sight of the little munchkin running haphazardly on the floor right near the cupboard.

The mouse and the lady shared the same feeling, of being scared of each other!

Mr Balanced sprang to action. He darted outside. Upon seeing him leave the room, Mrs Chitterchatter was devastated. She was about to cry. The mouse could not decide which way to head either. So it could not match its own steps and thus was fumbling. It tried to climb up the drawers but in vain.

Upon hearing the notion, Innocent Baby who was asleep, woke up. She and her bro, both dashed to the parent’s bedroom. With a sudden break the little girl stopped as she saw the fumbling mouse. She was about to turn back when the boy dashed into her. They fell down on impact. The screams of Mrs Chitterchatter were now accompanied my moans and groans from the kids.

By then Mr Balanced had fetched the broom. But he could not enter the bedroom as the children were struggling to get on to their feet. The screams of Mrs Chitterchatter have pulled the roof down by this time.

Carefully negotiating the way, requesting Mr Chitterchatter to calm down, Mr Balanced reached inside. The unexpected guest was no where to be found. With a torch in his hand, Mr Balanced checked each and every corner of the room but it couldn’t be traced. Search operation was called off in no time.

Let the guest enjoy the privacy of the main bedroom, they agreed unanimously. Decision was taken to have the refuge in the children’s bedroom. Mrs Chitterchatter made sure that the gap between the bedroom door and the floor was sealed with newspaper! Next day, the house keeping fellas were roped in to show door to the unexpected guest!

What do you think, would Nutty family keep the main door of their house open all the while even after this drama?

So unexpected guests also like Mrs Chitterchatter and family as much as we do! :)))))
Your words painted a picture that made me chuckle, Anagha. I am sure that having the unexpected guest for company was no laughing matter though!

Haha you are such a wonderful narrator. Though I do have experience about this guest at my place too. It got us all worked up for a week .

I’m sure the mouse ran out ! I had an unexpected guest too in the shape of a pigeon who somehow made an escape as stealthily as it came in

Aesha · April 24, 2018 at 2:32 pm

I could visualise the scene right in front of eyes and felt as if it were happening with me. What a amazing story teller you are Anagha!!! Please please keep writing this series.. or else I am going to miss this family a lot.

I always love reading your creative posts. You have a penchant for story telling! I hope the mouse didn’t trouble you after that incident.

mammaspeaks · April 24, 2018 at 3:39 pm

I can actually imagine the whole scene before my eyes, thanks to your wonderful description, Anagha! And loved Mrs. Chitterchatter’s “But before the dinner, the bedroom was neat and tidy” – it is so hilarious when there is already another commotion going on. BTW, had this mouse been in our house, it would have been Mr. Balanced scampering away in another room while I would be requesting watchmen or domestic helps with taking care of the uninvited guest.

Hahaha! Quite a naughty unexpected guest actually and give me a pat on my back for I guessed who it was (Just Kidding). I somehow feel the warm nutty family will still leave the doors open ?

Dipika Singh · April 24, 2018 at 4:27 pm

Haha… Loved it, I have seen such scenes in my sis-in-law’s house when she gets unexpected guests. Hilarious, trust me it was like I am seeing the entire commotion right infront of my eyes. Lovely post Anagha.

If you were in New Zealand, a raccoon might have paid you a visit. 😀 But a mouse is definitely more scarier. I say close the door 😛

Jhilmil · April 24, 2018 at 4:57 pm

Ha ha, this was a hilarious ride and indeed this unexpected guest was a must to see myself laughing looking at the screen and imagining one similar incident we had few days back!

Lovely story. Well narrated. I don’t like rodents either, but this one looks pretty harmless.
