Do you know what accompanies monsoon? Let me give you clues… EOR, EOS? Most of the humanity on my side of Earth is directly or indirectly affected by and happily or unhappily associated with this annual phenomenon! Discount sale, what else can it be… none other than  ‘End of Reason’, ‘End of Season’, ‘Stock Clearance’, ‘Up to 50%’, and what not etc etc.

Come monsoon, every shop in the market or mall declares the discount sale. There are many who wait for such an occasion, including me. Weekends are then sacrificed by the better half in holding my umpteen purchases and waiting patiently for my turn to try out before rejecting more than half of the chosen ones. Nodding in affirmation or rejection as per the mood on my face, every time I emerge out of trial room, is none less than standing a criminal trial for him. Given the fact that we are well over the seven year itch and  about to complete the second decade of blissful (sweet and sour would be better word!) co-existence, I royally ignore such minuscule creases on his forehead.

My perils, however, are far worthier of sympathy than his sacrifices. Have you tried digging up the pile for getting T-shirt that you feel is your size? Have you dared to play push and pull with perfect stranger when you lay your hands on that trouser at the bottom of the pile, that you were looking for and the lady on other side has grabbed its other leg? Exchanging the darn looks or feigning that other person is just invisible is task that requires skills of legendary stature. Everything is fair in love, war and discount sale!

The shop turns to be an arena for match of equals…size for size, skill for skill and shout for shout…Shout? Yes shout… Like how I end up calling my better half to show my prized catch? To begin with I have “shsh-shsh’ calls, then ‘clearing-of-throats call’ and then ‘clap-calls’, then the last resort ‘shout-aloud’. To fetch him to the present where I’m, from his world on smart phone is a galling task. Now imagine most of my likes engaging in this activity at same time…

This collective harsh cacophonous sound adds to my anxiety and nibbles away my buying spirit. How I wish then all these discordant sounds are barred from hearing. I don’t mind if I have to give up the sense of hearing for that matter! World will be peaceful and quitter to let me focus on my objective of shopping. Nothing will bother me and deter me from shopping till I drop. I can turn deaf ear to my husband’s grudges for giving me company for long unproductive (that’s according to him) hours. Moreover, it will save me from addiction of gossiping. I will not fall prey to rumors as rumors traditionally travel by the ear-route! Silence is golden they say.

I would however like to receive double vision power in exchange. I would then read the fine prints of the discount offer which usually follow an Asterisk mark and not leave those to fool me at the billing counter in the end.  With improved vision, I would easily spot the dress that has size I am looking for and will comfortably locate the one even if it is at the bottom of the pile or at the fag end of the display rack. One look at the dress and I will know if the fabric and design is right for all the seasons and save me trouble of trial. I can scan other’s purchases and find out if I had missed on anything great! One glance and I will get the fair idea of fast moving queue at the billing counter and then quickly shift to it. Will have an upper hand while bargaining with the shopkeeper as I will be able to read his mind beforehand. Most important, I will be able to read my better half’s finer expressions and design the preventive maintenance strategies before the impending premature full stop on my shopping spree!

If only wishes were horses…wont you say that? I can read that piqued and “what the heck” expression on your face, but I am not listening… Can see, won’t listen!

Such an amusing post! I do relate whatever you said about the shopping malls and their sales. Ah! We just want items for cheap, okay? Let us have it without your hidden T and Cs. Haha, nice post 🙂

Haha…now this is something every woman would love to have. Great and hilarious take on the prompt. I tried and left it midway. You did it too well!

    Anagha Yatin · July 14, 2018 at 6:13 pm

Would have loved to read your story dear. I’m sure you would have aced it. Go for it…I’m waiting.

BellyBytes · July 14, 2018 at 4:52 pm

Just came back from a round of the mall. We weren’t interested in shopping but had to look for an AC. The shops were quite deserted though . Rains perhaps scared them away.

    Anagha Yatin · July 14, 2018 at 6:15 pm

Lucky you Sunita, for 2 reasons. One that the mall gave you private lounge feeling and second that its a off season for ACs. Must have got good deal.
    Thanks for visiting.

      BellyBytes · July 14, 2018 at 6:59 pm

Oh ! I didn’t know that it is off season for ACs

        Anagha Yatin · July 14, 2018 at 8:10 pm

        Hehehe… loved that joke ?

aparna_097 · July 14, 2018 at 5:50 pm

I loved how you ended the post. That’s why I prefer online shopping. But going to shops for purchasing has its own charm.

    Anagha Yatin · July 15, 2018 at 12:28 pm

    Thanks Aparna

Deepa · July 14, 2018 at 11:14 pm

I know what you are talking about. Especially when I am back from a round at the mall. Sales attract us but the rush puts us off.

Sonia Chatterjee · July 15, 2018 at 6:54 am

This was such a funny read. I actually came to read your Bar-A-Thon post and ended up laughing on reading this instead .

Nima Das · July 15, 2018 at 9:40 am

Loved reading your amusing post on your love for shopping! Me I hate shopping and find excuses to avoid it as long as I can! Malls and shops are monsters in a nightmare for me! Yes I know my daughter tells me so too- I am the only one in my species of woman who hate shopping.

Rupali · July 15, 2018 at 11:42 am

Wonderful post Anagha!

jaya1966 · July 15, 2018 at 1:04 pm

I go to these end of sale and stock clearance affairs with my wife and usually she finds a place for me to sit down in some corner. Then my wife accompanied by my daughter would go on a spree leaving me for hours free to fool around with my mobile. And sometimes they will come back with a few shirts or trousers for me too 🙂 Very nice post.

Very well written post, Anagha 🙂 Nice take on shopping with better half. I liked the mention of unproductive hours. It’s always a different experience 🙂 Thanks for sharing 🙂

Geethica · July 15, 2018 at 2:13 pm

You struck the right chord. Sale is something I also wait for 6 months. And I have actually got better deals many times. Though it is nerve wrecking. After trying thousand clothes I get my favorite ones.

Corinne Rodrigues · July 15, 2018 at 4:14 pm

I’m pretty allergic to shopping, Anagha. I’m pretty much a have-to-buy-because-I-need-to kind of person!

Aesha · July 15, 2018 at 8:27 pm

That was a fun read. Nowadays there are sales every 3 months. My husband works in the retail industry and I know all about sales. I live it basically and thus know which are actually genuine ones. But I love shopping too and indulge myself in these sales all the time.

Anita · July 16, 2018 at 12:30 am

The offers are many. Vision is needed to spot them!
Nicely shared 🙂

Suzy · July 16, 2018 at 3:16 pm

My crazy shopping days are over. Now I only buy if I need and if I need I don’t wait for a sale.

simi sp · July 16, 2018 at 4:13 pm

Nice one- Can see won’t listen. I can imagine the plight of husband during wife’s shopping time;)

Vinitha · July 17, 2018 at 3:46 am

I don’t love or hate shopping. I love shopping when I go for shopping. Does that make sense? My husband is the same way. So between us our shopping sprees are simple and tolerable. But the problem is with my kids. My eight year old doesn’t like shopping at all unless we are there to buy toys for him, and my 21 months old keeps us on our toes all the time taking away the fun in any activity. So there.. This was a fun read, Anagha. Congratulations on completing the challenge successfully! ?

Sajid Akhter · July 17, 2018 at 9:00 pm

Women and shopping, do I need to say more. 😀 Jokes apart, very good post. Shopping nowadays is not limited to festive season. People shop throughout the year especially with online shopping sites available at your fingertips, it has become much more convenient and hassle free.

Thank you for this lovely post. Have a good day. 🙂

    Anagha Yatin · July 17, 2018 at 9:15 pm

Thank you Sajid Akhter for dropping by and sharing your thought.

What a brilliant take on the prompt, Anagha! I so love and admire your unique ideas and thought process.
I wanted to write for this prompt but nothing came to mind.

    Anagha Yatin · July 20, 2018 at 3:50 pm

Thank you Mayuri. I know you were hard pressed for time last week, specially over the week end. Else you sure would have churned a fab take!

Bhavna Saurabh Sharma · July 30, 2018 at 7:12 pm

I can relate with everything you said about the shopping and sales.
