Walt Disney, famously said, “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age and dreams are forever”.

I fall in love with this thought, specially at the beginning of every new year when I cherish a handful of penny plain things to come true. Though they may appear plain sailing for onlooker, for me there are a lot of undercurrents to tackle and I don’t know swimming. Special super powers are a must to sail well!

A flight of fancy, you may say, so does the majority of my family members, when I dream about the super powers coming to my rescue resulting into a ‘happy-happy’ me. I could read their minds  when I take shelter under the famed quote. What do I get to read?…

Better half: She’ll touch down sooner than expected from never-land.

Man, in making aka my son: Have been watching too much of Incredibles? Minions?

Miss Cool aka my daughter: “Sanity in Vanity” time.

I am not generally affected by such flippant spoofs. For I’ve grown immune to all annotations of such observations. For I have substantial reasons from real life and it’s still the season of wishing. Don’t forget, till Jan 31st, one can safely consider it to be new year.

A commoner in her 40’s, manning the home affairs as well as taking up charges of shield-maiden as I venture out, I face challenges as unique as me!

Oh, powers of the universe (if you are listening), here is my minuscule (as compared to size of universe) list of challenges. Parting with a little of your magical dust, you will get one squabbling person less (at-least for few days, I promise) from the queue of people seeking this-that!

The morning alarm goes tizzy at that time when I just have settled in deep sleep. Snoozing alarm to borrow some moments leads to uproarious drama at home front. Please grant me anti-snooze powers, to start the day with unwrinkled foreheads.

Getting up Ms Cool from repose, in morning is daunting task. Most of the times, I surrender to the cosy comforts and slip under the warm blanket with her, only to wreak havoc in her schedule. How I wish, I get strength to nudge happily tucked, smoothly floating in dreams kid, out of bed.

I would be grateful, if I get super powers to give justice to the rightful side of the warring faction of my brood. Torn between the tears on one side and logic and reasoning on another, I am helpless!

This one, I am seeking on behalf of parents. Only super powers can influence the schedule of assessments, projects (of children) that invariably fall after the extended weekends or holidays. Schools, boards have long forgotten the principle of “Live and let live”, it appears!

While walking down the street, on my usual evening walk, I need strong powers to shield me from the pull of hypnotizing aromas of freshly baked cakes and cookies from bakery. They mercilessly shorten my walk and add to my miseries while climbing on to the weight scale.

I need extra super power to convey the message that “I’m not standing here in the middle of the road to build a house” to those who honk unnecessarily when in choc a block traffic jam.

That’s all, as of now (There are some more. But lemme have mercy. Let me not alienate supreme universal power neither wish it to doze off while I churn on)  Am I asking too much? I would be happy, if you side by me by adding to this list! You never know when will your wish be granted…

My Words My Wisdom · January 16, 2019 at 1:33 pm

The way you have written is so poetic, the inferences from childhood are just on spot. ya even I would want to get the super power of waking up the kids as gently still without disturbing the schedule. Much love to you.I enjoyed reading this.

    Anagha Yatin · January 16, 2019 at 1:35 pm

Thank you for stopping by and appreciating. I’m happy to see that it resonated well with you.

Vartika Mehrotra Gakhar · January 16, 2019 at 4:07 pm

This is called as comeback with a bang. Directly from a mother’s heart these wishes popped up. Could relate to all the points you have mentioned. My fav was “I’m not standing here in the middle of the road to build a house”. How I wish people understand this someday…someday!!! Thanks for being a part of this blog train, Anagha 🙂

    Anagha Yatin · January 16, 2019 at 4:13 pm

Thank you Vartika for encouraging me time and again, specially when I was at the bottom of the pit and all that I could hear were echoes of my own.
Now that I am embarking on a reading spree, thanks to you and Alpana, Prerana for giving me opportunity to be part of this vibrant blog train. Cheers to you and all!

mayuri6 · January 16, 2019 at 5:05 pm

I wish you get all these superpowers, and then some more, Anagha. You already have a super power that you may not know about, to put together words that touch our heart and bring a smile to our face or mist our eyes.

    Anagha Yatin · January 16, 2019 at 5:24 pm

My Oscar moment Mayuri 🙂 My words fail to express my love and gratitude towards you. Overwhelmed. Thank you is such a small word.

lifewithmypenguin · January 16, 2019 at 5:18 pm

You gave me a picture of my soon coming future days. I have already noticed how kids are burdened with homeworks, exams, activities, sports and thing i don’t remember. Sigh! Although those are needed yet a balance is rarely found. Anti-snooze power would be much appreciated by my husband. I would ask to wake up in first alarm as superpower. I loved reading your take.

OMG, this is just an fantastic read Anagha. Te way yo have narrated your super powers wish list, it didn’t sound as if you are asking for something. Who will say No if something is written in this manner. Beautiful. My favorite is “I’m not standing here in the middle of the road to build a house”:)
Glad that a wonderful writer like you is a part of this train.

Super-powers with a difference is how I’d describe your post… and one does need them to be a better person.

    Anagha Yatin · January 29, 2019 at 5:57 pm

I badly need them as I’m yet to step on to the “good person” stage yet when talking about my weaknesses…better person is way too ahead! 🙂
    Thanks for visiting.

I really loved the way you have articulated the points and I completely agree on points relating to getting up and not snoozing the alarm and taking me away fro aroma of masala tea.

everylittlethinghappiness · January 28, 2019 at 1:25 pm

Loved the post.. very well written. I need those “super powers to shield me from the pull of hypnotizing aromas of freshly baked cakes and cookies from bakery.” .. me too want that.. that aroma though is sooo devine..

ILA VARMA (@VARMAILA) · January 28, 2019 at 11:32 pm

Loved your thoughts and the way you composed. Liked the bakery and cookies one, it is very tough to ignore and often we fall prey to it. Wonderful Anagha

Sudeept · January 29, 2019 at 12:04 am

So well-written! Can’t say whether the Superpowers you wished for would be granted or not, but one Superpower that you do seem to have is the power to weave magic through words. And that’s something no one can take from you. So keep weaving magic ?

Rashmi Karthik · January 29, 2019 at 4:14 pm
