“Hey, I saw something, a direction board, maybe a danger warning, probably, of which I am not sure, on a small wooden post, right before the bend that we took just now”, she said in one breath, shouting with frenzy, pointing towards his right – back as they were traveling in a car, on a deserted streak of passage that ran across the forest, around twilight, as they were lost, on the third day of their maiden road trip.
Applying the breaks as a knee jerk reaction made them both lean on the dashboard with a thrust and startled by her shriek, he said, ” God…your scream made my spirit jump out of my body, crazy girl!”
Winking at him, patting his shoulders, she said, “Only for sake of our lives as I saw you dozing off at the wheel, with the fatigue of driving for hours at end, darling”

That’s quite an innovative way to wake up the person who is driving! Good one!

This method of screaming to alert the snoozing driver is a naughty idea by all means but still a foolproof one. That first para took me on our drive through the Bandipur forest reserve on the way to Ooty fearing the emergence of a tiger any moment in front of our car.

My Dad was known to doze off at the wheel, so my Mom would harass him with inane conversation while he was driving at the end of a tiring day. Was often quite funny as she tried to get us involved in the effort too. Your story brought back memories! 🙂
