“Lyon? Is there a place on this good Earth named like this?’, was our common reaction when better half informed the rest three of us over dinner about his next official tour to Lyon, about 3 years ago. Darn our limited knowledge of geography 🙁
With curiosity, we opened the world map to discover that it indeed was a city in France. Curiosity led to gathering information about the city with the help of Google Baba, reading travelogues, and talking to people who had been there. The more I unearthed, the more I was fascinated by the details about it. The city of Lyon which existed since 43BC as Lugdunum, an important city in the Roman Gaul empire, was sneaking into our lives in the 21st century. It was none less than the distant dreamland for us.
I envied better half as he was the getting opportunity to visit this old yet modern, the 3rd largest, the cultural and gastronomical capital of France, nourished by the rivers Rhone and Sone and basking at the feet of mighty Alps, gloriously!
Cut to 2019, the nomadic bug made its presence felt when the better half got the opportunity to work at Lyon. Relocation thus was on cards as it always had been every 5 to 6 years for the last 2 decades. And in came the COVID! Working around the schedules of the important years of the children, the pandemic-related restrictions, winding up at Mumbai, I finally landed at Lyon in October’20.
It’s been more than half a year that I am living here in Lyon and loving the place, each new day for every new reason! This growing fondness for the city made me think of writing about it through my experiences as an ode to it.
The idea of “LifeThro’ Lens @Lyon”, blossomed in my mind even before the spring descended in this part of the world. Every city, town has a character which is a mix of cultural heritage, history, modern developments, the peculiarity of the geographical position, and most importantly its people. I wish to share my experiences as I learn more about the multifaceted, charming personality of Lyon and make you part of this voyage of discovery with me.
