Challenges cease their daunting facade once you face them. I learnt this recently. Rather it gave me the trophy of victory in the form of graduation in the level of respect and love from my kid! I ended the challenge with a vote of thanks to “natty and happy” smart home. And pat on my back to use it smartly (with few negligible objections, rather those allegations which are leveled by my better half and haven’t been proved yet, in my court of jurisdiction) as well!

The story goes like this… one fine day my daughter wished to eat “rava coconut laddoos” and the mandate was to make them as good as her Grandma’s. Grandma being placed at just little over the overnight distance, I could not rush to her nor could laddoos from her end. Challenge was assuming the pace of storm and I was more than devastated before I could garner courage to open the recipe book.

Turning the wifi on, I placed a video call from my smart phone to Mom. My Genie, my mom appeared with a smile on my screen, which was mighty enough to calm the storm that had sieged my thinking powers. I updated her with my challenge. Reassuring me with her words, she shared the recipe along with tips and tricks. I was smitten when she advised me to make use of microwave oven (for roasting) and mixer (for grinding the coconut to a smooth texture). Idea was to save my time and energy. Fell in love with the lady who is shy of being an octogenarian, yet so UpToDate with the latest technology and gadgets!

Half the battle was won. Putting the electronic kitchen weighing scale, mixer and microwave to good use I was ready with the rava laddoos in jiffy. And in between the roasting and grinding, I made my smart assistant to play the music and videos on our smart TV. Challenge really lost its facade and it presented itself as a smooth cake walk! Cherry on the top was yet to be placed over it. It did fall in its rightful place in a short while, later.

I wished to surprise my task master aka my daughter with a plate of her favourite laddoos when she returned from school. That was made easy with school bus tracking system and front door smart (security) camera. I was alerted on my smart watch that is paired with the smart phone, by the school bus tracking system when she boarded the bus and also when she alighted at our apartment entrance. As she rang the bell, I could see her standing at the door step on the screen of the front door security system. Placing the laddoos on a plate from the box, I kept them on the dining table with much alacrity and went ahead to welcome her with a poker face.

The unsuspecting soul, was unable to believe her eyes when she was pulled by the enormous gravity of attraction from the plate of fresh rava coconut laddoos! Before she could stretch her hand towards them, I had to pull her back and remind her to wash her hands before she could touch them. The smart automatic hand sanitizer dispenser is the happiest of all the machines, I suppose, when the little dirty hands reach it, every time!

By the time, she finished ablution, I had summoned the smart water heater to make the water warm enough from a comfortable shower time for her. While she was relishing the delicacy, I heard the familiar beep. It was none other than my smart dish washer, my most trust worthy house help, that never takes a day off! It had dutifully finished its job of taking care of cleaning the pots and pans without complaining.

Pushing her to the bathroom and untangling myself from her hugs and kisses, it was time to rope in Mr Washing Machine, my smart solution to tend to dirty laundry. While Mr Washing Machine and my daughter were at their businesses, I summoned the smart water purifier to quench my thirst and stock up the pure and clean water.

The late afternoon saw both mother and daughter busy with smart laptop and printer to help us in our own tasks…she for her project work and me for penning my thoughts!

Come evening, I pulled my fitness companion, my smart watch and strapped it around my wrist, as I was to embark on my regular walk. It’s the one that keeps me on track and motivates me to remain fit. While I burn the calories, the smart headphone  not only makes a fashion statement but also guards from distraction of traffic sounds. Making sure that my daughter also wore her smart watch that has a sim card as she rode out on her bicycle for her gymnastics session at the gymkhana, I waved a good bye to her. Nothing can ever beat these smart-wearable when it comes to ensuring the safety of my near and dear ones, I bet!

The day was about to sign off and the night was to report to the duty. Finishing dinner and winding up the kitchen, I looked forward to the best part of the day…reading. With the comforts accorded by the smart air conditioner, smart lights and Kindle, I lay in bed, satisfied with the turn of the events!

Before I was lost in the plot of the fiction that I was reading, a thought of gratitude emerged. Felt immensely thankful to the smart affordable solutions courtesy evolving technology, that make the life simple and easy amidst the stressful and busy schedules.

Long live smart solutions, for the world needs “natty and happy” smart homes!
