Come evening and Mrs Chitterchatter used to be eager for the daily dose of story time. It was the time when Innocent Baby would return from the school as she had the afternoon shift in those days.
One such evening, Innocent Baby returned home with a grumpy face. The shoe rack was slammed with a hard knock. The water bottle and the snack-box landed in the kitchen with a bang. All this was accompanied by the heavy grunts.
“What’s the matter?”, asked Mrs Chitterchatter.
“Don’t ask”, came a bitter reply.
A moment or two went in silence.
“But…. I can share with you what had happened”, said Innocent Baby.
“Know what? That boy…he will get good from me one day”
“Today we were going to the library. While going down the stairs, he pushed me off the steps”
“I then turned around and told him that he shouldn’t do this”
“That’s a good thing you did sweet heart”
“But the boy did not understand it. He pushed me again and this time I fell down”
“I got up and held him by his collar. I screamed on his face and pushed him back. Now he won’t ever think of playing nasty pranks”, she stopped on the note of victory.
“Oh dear. You should have informed the teacher, instead”, advised Mrs Chitterchatter.
“But you only told me once that actions speak louder than words Mommy. So I acted first and then screamed louder”
Mrs Chitterchatter was thinking of discussing the incident with Innocent Baby to advise her on the right way to handle such situations. But she thought of waiting for the next day to dawn so that dust fell on the angered mood and thawed it.
Next day dawned. The Giant Kid left for the school in morning. Waving a good bye to Mr Balanced, she returned to coax Innocent Baby out of bed. The phone rang. It was an unknown number.
“Hello”, she said answering the call.
“Hello and good morning”, came the reply. “Am I talking to Innocent Baby’s mother?”, enquired the voice of a lady from the other side.
Mrs Chitterchatter suddenly recollected the incident narrated by Innocent Baby the previous day. She had a lump in her throat. She imagined it to be the call from the boy’s parent. She frantically searched for the words to apologise.
“This is Innocnet Baby’s class teacher here. Am I talking to her mother?”
“Oh…yes Mam. This is Mrs Chitterchatter. I was…”, she replied after collecting enough courage.
“Good. Wish to inform you that Innocent Baby is selected from my class to represent the school for a live interview with a TV channel”, the teacher continued from other side.
“What?”, came a surprised reply from Mrs Chitterchatter.
“The TV channel is covering our school for a documentary. Please talk to her about it so as to make up her mind to face the camera and the TV interviewer”
“Oh…sure sure. Thank you, teacher”, replied Mrs Chitterchatter excitedly.
“Thank you”, said the teacher before cutting the line.
From shocked to surprised, Mrs Chitterchatter had a hair rising experience!
