Shreyas got up early this morning. Without any push and prodding from mother, he finished his morning routine.
“Don’t get into any troubles this Diwali vacation”, she admonished him and continued with a warning tone, “Exams are round the corner”. He looked up and nodded in affirmation. He then hurried out. She was all the more puzzled. He had not carried his cricket bat nor his football.
Shreyas then rushed to his friends’ houses. Soon 9-10 of them gathered in the club house. A gang of young boys discussed something. Some curious and piercing eyes peeped through the Club house window. The gang was too busy to pay any heed to them.
He hurried home and returned with a print out. It was pasted outside the Club House.
The paper read…
Let’s make Diwali special. Let’s bring the light and cheer in the lives of our neighbours. Please donate snacks and Diyas. They will be distributed at the labour camp next to our society premise!
The Wall of Humanity stood anxiously waiting for the generous donors!!!

Aww Sweet story! So touching to think of young boys getting together and doing something like this for their community. Great story!

Something on similar lines was carried out by moms and kids in our society few years back. My tale was loosely based on that experience itself! In a sense this fiction was rooted in reality!
Thanks PJ for interesting prompt.

So nice to see a group of caring youth. Such things are not written about too often these days.

Absolutely Nona. At times I feel, such stories should be made headlines of the daily news paper. World would be a better place to live and day would be off to a great start!
