“Here we go around mulberry bush….”, filled the air with disembodied sounds.

“Peter, let me join”, said Hannah.

“No stopping”, answered Peter mocking.

Hearing this, she howled like a banshee.

Mrs Pinto emerged to give a dressing-down. “Fractious bone-stacks, go away. Don’t make ruckus here”.

It was met with louder, cacophonous rendition. Grinding her teeth, she darted towards the bunch of blatant spooks. She caught hold of Hannah. Mr Pinto appeared from nowhere.

“Honey-bunch let them have fun”, he pleaded

“Fossil to the rescue”, rumbled Mrs Pinto. “Don’t you dare to take their side”, she continued.

Winking at her, he asked, “You will do what?”

Loosening her grip on Hannah, Mrs Pinto stepped in the direction of Mr Pinto.

“Hannah, run for your life”, called out Mr Pinto, soaring up and settling on the branch.

Gone was Hannah and Mr Pinto.

“You crook”, grumbled Mrs Pinto returning to her grave.

When I checked the prompt for this week’s #FridayFotoFiction, three ideas held me for ransom. All held their grounds so firmly, that I had to withhold writing on any of these till one of them turned a clear winner in my thoughts.

The spooky one turned a winner. I was bit partial in its choice. Partly because I was part of a spooky bunch of kids who had spoiled many an afternoon siestas of aunties and grannies in the neighborhood; specially during the summer vacations. And one of the phrase associated with us. in those days was, “Bhoot kahike!” (Hindi) or “Bhuta aahet nusti” (Marathi). The loose translation of it, for me is  “spooky scum-bags”. But believe me, it was much more fun when some one scolded us for our naughty acts!

The other two ideas are now staring at me angrily from the corner of my brain. Wish they don’t haunt me if I fail to pen them. Till such time, I wish they rest in peace deep buried in my grey-cells…
